Community Outreach Committee
The Community Outreach Committee (COC) aims to get PMPI’s name out in the community through volunteer work. Each year our committee members select a Charity of the Year (COY), which becomes the focus of our volunteer efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Sell COY raffle tickets during all PMPI events
- Assist with the “Power of Change” donation drive at all PMPI events
- Collect prize items for raffles (prizes given to raffle winners, all proceeds can go to the COY)
- Coordinate or be a volunteer for one of our COY planned events
- Assist committee co-chairs with Potomac Memo and Connections articles
- Maintain current website content – work with Marketing & PR
Time Commitment:
The COC holds monthly conference calls to keep everyone up-to-date on our activities, with one – two in-person committee meetings per year. The planned events benefiting the COY may involve one or two evening events throughout the year.
PMPI Story:
The COC is all about giving back to our community – our members have huge hearts and our charity of the year can certainly attest to this. Committee member Cara Tobias Ingram with Travel Portland shares the story of our “family dinner” in April 2011 with the Children’s in at NIH, our 2010-2011 COY.
Don’t forget the Juicy Juice! When the Community Outreach Committee gets together for a project, details for everyone’s comfort - even pint sized people – aren’t overlooked!
One Monday evening in April, nearly a dozen PMPI members teamed up to host a delicious dinner at the Children’s Inn for families of patients undergoing serious treatment at the world-class National Institutes of Health. The Inn is a remarkable attempt to provide a home away from home in a time of stress.
The plan worked! Over 70 guests were chattering and coming back for seconds at our colorful Spring themed dinner. Pie, ice cream and a souvenir toy made for extra smiles and kind remarks.
Thanks to all who participated and those who supported through donations. Join us next time and add to your PMPI “army of allies” while working for other’s welfare.
